Whether it’s an install for a house of worship or an outdoor concert for a major touring act, Sid Gattis, President of Lexington, SC-based Gattis Pro Audio, one of the largest full service audio/visual, lighting and staging companies in central South Carolina, has worked with just about every type of subwoofer there is. As a result, he knows a thing or two about sub bass, which is why when it comes to putting his money where his mouth is; Gattis goes for the TL.218SS Sub Bass System from WorxAudio Technologies. Gattis Pro Audio handles a wide range of projects. The company serves as a design/build firm in the contractor market, where it recently completed a major project for the Harvest, a non-denominational, contemporary church located in Lexington, SC. Similarly, the firm handles live sound projects such as concerts for major Country, Rap, and Hip-Hop artists, and is equally entrenched in the business of corporate industrials. It’s not uncommon for Gattis and his crew to handle events upwards of 15,000 people. In preparation for the start of the summer touring season of 2006, Gattis purchased his first four TL.218SS Sub Bass System enclosures—a dual 18-inch setup in a surprisingly compact form factor—which he uses in conjunction with the company’s TrueLine V10-PMD3 powered line array system, a combination that Gattis describes as, “A match made in Heaven.” Gattis also plans on acquiring four additional TL.218SS enclosures by the start of this year’s touring season. Purchased primarily for use in outdoor concerts, Gattis reflected on his first exposure to the TL.218SS subwoofer. “We set up a demonstration for a major church project we recently completed, and Hugh Sarvis (WorxAudio’s CEO and Director of Engineering) brought in a single sub for evaluation. Right there and then, I fell in love with it. I was amazed at the sheer depth and power of this subwoofer. I’ve never encountered any sub the size of the TL.218SS that goes that deep and is that powerful. The TL.218SS literally kept going lower and lower where other subs would simply fall apart. For a moderate sized, double 18-inch enclosure, this sub’s 30-40 HZ delivery is spectacular.” When it comes to pro touring, a company’s customer and technical support can make all the difference to the troops in the trenches, and this is yet another reason Gattis feels confident about his investment in WorxAudio Technologies. “The WorxAudio team is great to deal with,” says Gattis. “I can get Hugh on the phone anytime I need him, which hasn’t been often since the gear is made so well. The company has always been very responsive and I look forward to doing more business with them in the future.” As he prepares for the upcoming summer touring season, Gattis, who typically runs his WorxAudio subs two per side with his line array, offered a closing thought on his experience with the TL.218SS subwoofers. “Normally, you’d expect to use a box twice this size,” said Gattis. “It’s really amazing what we get out of these WorxAudio subs. I recently put four of them in front of 5,000 people, and was initially told, ‘There’s not enough bottom end.’ I said, Wait ‘till we turn them on, at which point, everyone exclaimed, ‘Oh my God!’ You can’t ask for a better reaction than that.” For additional information on Gattis Pro Audio, visit the company online at www.gattisaudio.com. About the WorxAudio Technologies TL.218SS Sub Bass SystemAvailable in both powered and non-powered configurations, the TL.218SS Sub Bass System employs two of WorxAudio’s legendary TL1801SS 18-inch low frequency transducers in a tuned port enclosure built from tour-tested, 21-ply Baltic Birch that is extensively braced for high cabinet rigidity.
