Tonos Entertainment Inc. (http://www.tonos.com), the only music company leveraging the Internet to serve the music creation and discovery space, today announced the launch of two opportunities for artists, bands and vocalists.
Legendary studio guru Steve Lillywhite (U2, Dave Matthews Band, the Rolling Stones) is seeking new acts for his label, and former Dokken/Lynch Mob guitarist/songwriter George Lynch is looking for a lead singer for his new band. In the Steve Lillywhite/Gobstopper Records Challenge, bands and vocalists from all genres are invited to submit one song at www.tonos.com by Oct. 4, 2001. Lillywhite and the Gobstopper A&R team will select the grand prize winner, who will receive their own custom Web site (built by industry leader 305Spin; valued at approximately $3,000) and a chance at possibly getting a record deal with Gobstopper Records. The challenge with Gobstopper Records originated after Lillywhite signed a rock band from Iowa, Rearview Mirror, the winners of last year's Tonos CMJ Challenge. After being selected as the winners of the CMJ Challenge, which resulted in a performance slot at the annual CMJ music conference in New York, Lillywhite saw Rearview Mirror perform and signed the band. "Our first signing to Gobstopper was Rearview Mirror, a band that had won a contest at Tonos last year, so we are extremely optimistic about the quality of talent that will enter the Gobstopper contest on Tonos," stated Lillywhite. The George Lynch Rock Male Vocalist Industry Opportunity involves a search by Lynch for a rock vocalist between the ages of 25-40 with exceptional vocal talent, as well as a dark, moody, mysterious and intense persona to work on his new solo project. Interested artists are required to create an Artist Profile at www.tonos.com, then submit their user name for consideration by Sept. 30, 2001. The best submissions will be forwarded to Lynch, with the chance of one becoming the lead vocalist for his latest band. "The Steve Lillywhite and George Lynch projects demonstrate the substantial effort Tonos is making to enhance the careers of its users," stated Justin Herz, executive vice president and general manager, Tonos Entertainment Inc. "We will continue to find exclusive career opportunities that make Tonos the destination for musicians to get a foot in the door of the music industry."
