THE SHAKE has already kicked off 2007 with a steady stream of New York City-area events, continuing to develop into one of the most talked about new bands of the year.  In addition to an ever-growing number of local performances, winning several “Battle Of The Bands” events and on-line competitions, the foursome has already secured their first national TV appearance.  THE SHAKE - lead singer/guitarist Jon Merkin, lead guitarist Eliad Shapiro, drummer Andrew McNellis and bassist Jeremy Stein – have taken their incredibly energetic and highly praised live performance to the airwaves with an upcoming appearance on the nationally syndicated show “Fearless Music.”   The taping, which took place last week (March 2), featured three songs from their forthcoming Unicycle Records debut Kick It, including lead single “Manic Boogie,” the controversial “Dying Ain’t the End of the World,” and the frenetic “Outcast.”   Although a specific airdate has yet to be announced, the segment is slated to air on New York’s FOX 5-TV as well as affiliates across the country.  When asked how it felt to perform for the cameras of one of his favorite TV show, Merkin said: “It was a lot different from our usual performances.  We’re used to playing for a live audience and feeding off the crowd reaction.   I didn’t think it would be as exciting as it turned out to be.” Shapiro added, “We were concerned that putting on a great performance for just a handful of technicians in a studio would be a challenge, but it ended up being a real kick!” On the strength of a recent First Place finish at the Columbia University “Battle of the Bands,” the Columbia Spectator campus newspaper devoted a feature article to the band, whose members Merkin and McNellis are students at the hallowed college.   THE SHAKE is booked for their fifth appearance at famed New York City venue the Knitting Factory for Thursday evening, March 8th.   Most recently at “the Knit,” THE SHAKE was thrilled to open for Australia’s The Living End.  “They’re one of my favorite bands,” admits Merkin.  “Sharing the stage with them was an awesome experience.  They were really nice guys and treated us with respect not often shown to opening acts.  We learned a lot from just watching those guys.” “Manic Boogie” was also featured on www.nextbighit.com, where it sailed through the first round of voting and into the finals of a fan-determined ballot to pick “The Next Big Hit.”  Prizes for the winner include being featured on the front page of the iTunes music store.  “Manic Boogie” has been picking up airplay online on such podcasts as “The Good Beer Show.”   All in all, it looks like the predictions about THE SHAKE’s imminent success are coming true. Kick It is slated for release May 15th.  Learn more about the band at www.WeAreTheShake.com or www.myspace.com/theshakeband.
