MP3 Song
My Own Type

THE SONG
A smooth, dramatic and moody tune. The band has a Posies type of feel. Give it a listen.

THE CD
A very cool 13 track cd. All the songs are unique and hold their own.

For over eight years, Pretty Mighty Mighty has been a staple in the Midwest music scene. Numerous releases and extensive touring has won the band favor with both critics and fans. Starting in Athens, OH, at Ohio University, guitarist and vocalist Jonathan Chinn and drummer Neal Schmitt had been playing together in rock bands since high school and were looking to build upon this foundation. Violinist Noel Sayre and singer Cori Churdar joined Pretty Mighty Mighty as full time members after originally learning songs to help out in the studio. One year later, John Fitzgerald was added on bass, completing a lineup that remained intact for over four years. The band relocated to Columbus, OH In 1993. Five releases, hundreds of shows and thousands of miles later, Churdar left the group.

Pretty Mighty Mighty plunged heavily into writing and recording, even developing their own commercial recording facility, Workbook Studio. The band has stayed very busy throughout it's entire history... Releases include: three singles and a full length CD, "Ugly", on Burnt Sienna Records, one single on Dayton, Ohio's Simple Solution Records and various compilations, including A.M.P. (Union/Anyway Records), I am Thunderbird Sounds of Ohio (Seng Records) and Burnt and Bent (Burnt Sienna). Favorable reviews in national magazines like the College Music Journal, Flipside and especially Alternative Press has helped introduce the band to new fans.

Pretty Mighty Mighty has shared the stage with such notable acts as Scrawl, Babe the Blue Ox, Guided by Voices, The Dambuilders and The Tragically Hip. The band has also appeared at various music conferences, including the Midwest Music Festival in St. Louis, NEMO in Boston and the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City. WWCD, WCBE, WFAL WMUL, and dozens other radio stations across the country have all supported the band.

Pushing the pop/rock boundaries with innovative songwriting and textured musicianship, the band has not stopped growing and expanding. The tight, enveloping wall of violin infested noise pop the band creates is a welcomed change. Sonically, the band has been described as "well crafted indie pop" and " . . . something classical (popwise) yet innovative . . ." Eerie dissonance, precise rhythm changes and creative melodies intertwine for a swirling, dynamic soundscape.

Derailleur Records will released "Famous Past Lives", the long awaited sophomore CD of Pretty Mighty Mighty in 1999.
