MP3 Song
Peppermint Pattie
THE SONG
A well produced and lyrically interesting song. The arrangement and sound is great. This song could definitely get spins with the catchy lyrics and solid attention getting music.
THE CD
Although this is a three song ep, it is very evident that Kathy has the talent. The songs are inventive and are presentations that stand on their own. We can't wait to hear her full cd.

Kathy O'Neill's voyage to Rock Stardom began on the day she was born, June 26, 1973 in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. She began to sing at the age three when The Captain and Tenille and Barry Manilow were her biggest influences. As the youngest of five siblings in a family of musicians. Kathy was encouraged to master instruments including the violin, piano and clarinet. She learned drums on her own by sneaking down to the basement to play on her brother's kit. Unfortunately, as she was forming plans to become a superstar drummer, Kathy suffered a broken leg. Luckily for us, she sought solace not in a tub of ice cream, but rather, in the illicit playing on her brother's guitar. This is where Kathy found her true passion.
By age 15, she had saved enough pennies to buy her own guitar and taught herself to play by ear, trading in the Captain and Tenille for 5440, Cowboy Junkies and Concrete Blonde. She gave classical guitar lessons short shrift, preferring to write and sing her own material. At age 17, Kathy packed up her guitar and headed West on a Greyhound. She busked the streets of Vancouver and played community centers to pay the rent. She soon garnered enough attention to land a job hosting the open stage at the Broadway Express Pub and subsequently scored gigs at the Railway Club and the Malcolme Lowry Room opening for the likes of Michael Turner and Oh Susanna. During this time she recorded a few live tracks with Michael Turner and released a 6 song tape called "Tryin' So Hard".
In 1995, Kathy spent some time in Toronto, playing cabaret nights at the Cameron House. In 1996, she returned to Vancouver to join the all girl band "Revulva". She left the band after six months and continued to play solo shows around town - claiming first prize at the Dufferin New talent Competition three weeks in a row. Following this brief taste of fame, Kathy decided to take some time off from the music business. Spending too much time at the Dufferin can have that effect. Her talent simmered for two years until January 1999 when she met up with producer, Craft and recorded a brilliant three-song cd called "red_krassy", which she financed entirely on her own.
Kathy currently lives in a studio apartment with her five guitars and keeps a day job at the UBC bookstore. Her immediate plans include playing gigs and getting her songs on the radio, where they belong. She is seeking management and a record deal to allow her to focus fully on her talent and not on furnishing university students with reading material.
