JOY THE BUG releases their first full length album "Many Mighty Massive Malls" on March 26th 1999. With a release party at The GIG in Hollywood and soundtrack placement of the song "YOU" in the film "Waylon and Buzz" (starring David Faustino and Robert Stack), the pop-alternative trio comprised of Matthew Basile (bass), Elliott Powell (vocals, guitar) and Jeff Spears (drums) has hit the mark on what looks to be a very big year.

JOY THE BUG began with a three song demo in February 1998. Reviews from magazines such as Los Angeles based Night Moves said JOY THE BUG "makes you sit up, open your eyes wide and say ‘WOW!’" Of their live show, Music Connection wrote that JOY THEBUG has "an overall sound that is brewing with passion... I counted more than a few songs that were radio-ready." The song "YOU" received airplay on commercial stations Y107 (which included an on-air interview) and KLOS in Los Angeles, LIVE 105 in San Francisco, several College Stations (which included on-air interviews and performances) and rotation in ten other cities via the syndicated Radio One Network. The band was also featured by industry trade Album Network for the Virtually Alternative radio sampler and magazine which described "the beauty of JOY THE BUG" as "solid, passionate, smart and focused."

While developing their sound and drawing a loyal fan base with performances at The Dragonfly, The Troubadour and The Whisky A-Go-Go in 1998, JOY THE BUG decided to release a full length CD independently through Proper Pop Records. From there began a process of recording shows and rehearsals in order to fine tune arrangements, new songs, and sonic textures.

Recorded at a friends house with producer/engineer Carlos Calvo, the group sought to create a record that would capture the subtleties of the arrangements and the energy of their live performances. With the gracious efforts of mixing engineer Michael Chandler and the mastering of Tom Baker (Beastie Boys, Stone Temple Pilots, Rob Zombie) JOY THE BUG offers "Many Mighty Massive Malls," an album that is both current and forward looking, all the while focused on strong songwriting.

JOY THE BUG is currently promoting "Many Mighty Massive Malls" throughout the Southwest with club dates, college gigs, and in-store performances at retailers including Virgin Megastore and Borders Books and Music.
