Hennessey began in Ottawa three years ago as an acoustic duo between Rory and Pamela. The genesis was part of a pact: Pamela would teach Rory how to sing and Rory would teach Pamela how to play guitar. The day before their first show they stayed up all night rehearsing in the ice cream store in which Pam was employed, with the P.A. on full blast, and attracted a crowd of curious pressed noses in the store front window peering in through the darkness to see what was going on. The success of Rory and Pamela's agreement is open to debate, but the response to the "Hennessey Duo" was extremely encouraging. Stuart Watkins of the reggae band Outcry soon joined to make the duo a trio (with the inclusion of a double bass and three part harmonies). Swift on his heels came drummer Ari Tapiero with whom Rory had played for four years in the band September Child.

The band thus established, Hennessey played their first full band show in September 1997. They have quickly established themselves as one of the most popular live acts in Ottawa and will continue to promote their new CD throughout the summer.

"Our philosophy is simple," Rory stated, "we have fun on stage and we try to share that with the audience. People respond to the fact that we're genuine and interactive."
