MP3 Song
Choke

THE SONG
A really cool, funky, rocking tune. The bass line is really happening as the foundation for the opening of the song. A great arrangement as well.

THE CD
These guys know how to rock and keep it fun and funky. 7 solid songs make up this disk. There is much attention placed on arrangement that makes all the songs shine!

Harrison was formed in the summer of 1996 (originally consisting of Al Richer on vocals, Danny Jensen on guitar, Jay Cote on drums, and Pat Groulx on bass). Before they had played any gigs (in fact they only had 3 songs), Pat left to join fleSHpaiNT (Sponge Bath recording artists). Jamie Harbinson was working as a Medical Illustrator for a local Hi-Tech company where Jay also worked as a janitor. The two met and Jay asked Jamie to jam with them.

At first the meetings were less than stellar with the jams being unproductive and undisciplined. They went their separate ways, until an opportunity to play in a small battle of the bands contest appeared. Calls went out and they quickly reformed with a goal in mind this time.

They only had 3 weeks to put together a 20 minute set and although they did not win the contest, they found that they could write songs together. Still unnamed at this point they struggled with the usual stream of idiotic titles that left them shaking their heads in disbelief for months. With a paying gig rapidly approaching on the horizon, Danny flippantly threw out the moniker "Harrison" as a tribute to his favorite movie star (danny has a storm trooper tattooed on his left calf). The best way to describe the groups reaction was..."It didn't suck" and since they were running out of time they went with it. Thank God Danny didn't have Pee Wee Herman tattooed on his butt.

The band broke up for a few months in the winter of 1998 and reformed from much persuasion from friends who felt that the band hadn't reached it's full potential. This time drummer Steph Boucher was behind the kit as Jay had joined another band in their time apart. Steph had played with Harrison twice before and the timing was perfect as Steph's band was also taking a time out.

In the summer of 1998 they entered a demo they had recorded a year earlier at Sound of One Hand Studios in a local radio station's talent search. The Bear's (106.9) Rock Search contest drew 250 entries and after much deliberation the field was reduced to 8 bands. Over a 3 week period the bands played against one another until only 4 were left. After an excellent evening of rock Harrison had to settle for second place, but had won many fans in the process (that's their story and they're sticking to it). They took the second place prize money and finished recording their debut cd which was released in June 1999.
