Electrostatic is a three-piece band that consists of Mike Thibeau on bass, keyboards and programming, Rob Gardner on drums and programming and Kaoru on vocals. Mike and Rob are both East Coast natives that grew up in Southern Maine, then moved to Los Angeles to pursue careers in music. After playing in numerous Los Angeles based rock bands both separately and together, Mike and Rob got together to form an electronic based industrial guitar rock band called Bit of Finger. After the band’s breakup, they decided to change direction to a more dance-oriented project, changing the emphasis of the music more towards the groove of the drum loops, keyboards and bass. Instead of the electronics being the background to guitar based rock music, it is the main ingredient of the song, making it something you're more likely to hear on the dance floor rather than in a rock club. Their original idea was to have several vocalists they liked sing over their instrumental dance music. But that changed when they called upon Kaoru, a singer songwriter from Japan that had originally moved to Los Angeles with an all-female rock band. From the results of the first few recordings she sang over, they knew she was the only one for their music. Since these early recordings, she has become an important part of the sound that is Electrostatic. Even though in the studio almost all the music is comprised of samples and loops, Electrostatic wants to emphasize that they are still very much a band. During a live show you are not likely to see two guys turning knobs behind a wall of equipment while the singer stands out front. Mike plays bass live and uses a variety of effects from wahwah to heavy distortion. Rob's mixture of electronic drums with his acoustic drumming perfectly compliments the layers of drum loops coming through the speakers. Electrostatic knows the importance of a high-energy live show.

Electrostatic has an 8 song CD called "Sensitive Electronic Devices" available at http://www.mp3.com/electrostatic
