If you're not already familiar with this term, it means: "The person receiving your music didn't ask for it"

Many record companies have a no unsolicited music policy. If you send them your cd or tape you can expect to have it go into the trash or if you're lucky get sent back to you. The reason being is that record companies get tons of material and they just can't go through it all and because they are also concerned with lawsuits arising from copyright infringement.

So, before you send out that cd of yours make sure that the company will accept unsolicited material first and save yourself some time, money and energy. Look through the list of Record companies in the BandRadio Directory and you can see which companies are accepting unsolicited music.

As someone who NEEDS a larger community of songwriters and producers, "unsolicited material" is a heartbreak.
