If you're planning to have your new cd mastered before you go to press DON'T mix down using compression on your stereo outs. It's ok to compress instruments that need it but not the entire mix. If you do you leave the mastering engineer fewer options to make your mix sound good. A mastering engineer will do his best to make your master sound full, clear and just as loud as other commercially available cds. Don't limit his ability to give your music the final tweaking it needs.
