Talent wasn’t in short supply at the 2002 Atlantis Music Conference. So many good bands, so little time. Here’s a run down of some and by no means all, of the artists that graced stages in Atlanta over 3 nights. Squint - Bold, powerful, energetic rock. These guys really know how to work a stage. You’ve got to see them perform. Uncle Mudfish - Hard Rock band that is like Creed and STP smashed together. The songs have soul and so does the band. Will Hoge - Tom Petty for the new millennium. These guys are the real deal.
Dan Hannon Band - Feel good tunes from a feel good band. “Something Good” is their current release. Flickerstick - VH1 Bands on the Run winner. These guys have been on the road forever and still kicked ass. The crowd was singing along to every song. Dropsonic - Dropped a bomb on 10 High. Relentless Rock ‘n’ Roll. Uncrowned - Great band, great songs. The energy expended by both the band and the sold out crowd was astounding. Song after song rocked. Jim Bianco - This man has an electric personality. He ruled the stage with an acoustic guitar and drum accompaniment. Folky, rocky, country and down right entertaining. Six against Seven - Power pop ala Goo Goo Dolls with a Matchbox twenty vibe. Great singer. Agent Cooper - These guys were tough to nail. It was like Queen meets the left leg of Dream Theater. If you dig prog rock, check them out. Impotent Sea Snakes - Wow! The band owns a really sweet club called The Masquerade where they performed Saturday night. This is hard rock entertainment. Guys on stilts, near naked women and men, grinders played in time on genital areas, I could go on, but just go see for yourself. Mimic - All girl metal. I love to see chicks rock and theses ladies did just that. E.X. Vortex - Hometown rockers. The singer has to take the award for the best promotion by a band at the conference. He was tireless, professional and just a great guy. Drednot - Hardcore. The singer was insane. Couldn’t stop watching the way he’d look past the crowd while he was in his own world. Fusebox - Hard, heavy and melodic. Maquerade purgatory was rocking hard with Fusebox on the stage. Take the time to check out these bands with the links provided above. You are bound to find something that is right up your alley. My only thought is: what great bands did I miss? Hats off to the Atlantis staff that made it so hard to choose where to spend my nights while attending the conference. Booking bands like these only raises the bar and you cannot go wrong doing that.
